In order to fully utilize the information obtained from genomic-scale sequencing projects, one must be able to identify the functions of the genes found. The FhCMB Functional Genomics platform enables the functions of plant genes to be studied by creating anti-sense transcripts to inactivate one or a few genes in most of the tissues of a plant. The effects (phenotype) of each new gene may thus be studied by analyzing the consequences of its transient inactivation.
